A little mixup!

I skipped my bike ride, Wednesday evening, just to give my knee a rest. I also missed my swim class this morning, but, I made it to the pool for the evening swim and did my 500 yards. Before the swim, my husband and I went on a 10 mile bike ride. I love that he is joining me, I just wish he did more often!  We are going to the pool together almost every Tuesday and Thursday evening, with one or a few kids...little by little we will get all this worked out, the scheduling of 7 is not easy!

Today's workout's- Swim 500 yards and Bike 10.49 miles.

Terrific Tuesday!

Today was a terrific Tuesday. I woke up and got ready for swim class. The hardest part of swimming is that first dip in the cold pool, until you warm up and it actually feels good. We had a switch up with the teachers, the two instructors traded places for the day. The teacher we had was great, too, we did swim drills totally 500 yards. I felt so good after the workout. Of course I went back again to the pool in this evening, for open swim, for 500  more yards. After swim, I ran 3 miles. My knee was starting to feel a dull pain in the last half mile, but, I pulled through and finished the run. With R.I.C.E., my knee is feeling better.

Todays' workouts-  two swims; 500 yards each-total 1,000 yards & a 3 mile run.

End of the week success-Brick Workout

I completed my brick workout today with success. I feel like there is still lots of room to improve, but, I did it!!!
I woke up late this morning. I wanted to be up earlier, but, I was also feeling a bit nervous to go alone. At least on a bike I can probably out ride a bad person, as with walking or running the chances are slim. This is what I get for watching 20/20 and all those other news shows about killers.

I also switch up my rides, I never know exactly what route I will take on my biking day. I like it like that, my body doesn't get used to the same route and adjust to the same route. I rode 10.71 miles in 48 minutes, this is still slow for a race, but, I will improve over time. :)

I then ran 2.51 miles in 27 minutes, it was not easy at all!!! My goal would be 3 miles in 30 minutes, but this will also take time.

After my little brick workout, you would have thought I was starving! Ha! Lets just say all the calories I burned in 1 hour and 15 minutes I ate within 20 minutes!

I ended this week with a total of 31 miles;swimming, biking & running.

What am I doing?

I have been looking over races for a few months. I have really wanted to do a Tri, but, I am scared, nervous, of an open water swim. I love swimming, I just freak when I feel something brush up agaisnt me! I don't think I am alone in this aspect of a Tri. I have found three Tri's in my area that offer pool swims, so, I have decided to try one out. I have picked this one, Bardmoor YMCA Triathlon, it is a 500 yard swim, 10.25 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile walk or run. They seem very friendly and say that this race is designed for new comers to the sport of a Tri. I plan to have fun and not be to consumed with time; how long it takes me to finish.
Come join me!

Wish me luck!!!  :)
Thank you!

Such a FUN evening!

I have my swim classes in the morning, and I come back in the evening too. I like to work continuous, and I like my family to come too. In class it's more slow and working on technique.

In the evening my husband has been coming with me to work on his free diving/breath hold. I brought my 4 year old, Sarah, Tuesday night. She wants to swim all the time! Tonight Randy, Sarah, my son Brandon, and my sister, Cristy, came too. Brandon is also a diver, but a scuba diver; really can't free dive like his dad yet, but, he would like to one day.

I again did my laps, my sister, Cristy, watched Sarah.

Sarah, she loves the water;all my kids do!

My husband, Randy, with the fins on in the pool ;-)

After Brandon practiced with his dad, he wanted to play; off to the
diving board he went!!!

Before swim I was supposed to get in a run, but, I felt like a walk. This was a few minutes of running in the beginning that turned into a walk. Just wasn't feeling the run.

Today was a 2 mile walk in 30 minutes and a .36 mile swim in 16 minutes.

Training Schedule

Edited. Found these on my husbands camera. He was supposed to record me swimming, but, looks like he just took pics!

 Kinda funny!

Another ride!

Yes, how exciting, another bike ride. I know it can be boring; all these workouts. I am keeping track for myself too. I am just a busy mom, trying to be healthy. I really think if I can do it, there is not many reasons why others can't! I am also doing it for my children. I want them to enjoy these activities too.

My Tuesday...

Swim class went well this morning. I think I am finally getting this whole swimming down. I am still not very good with my form, but, I am getting more comfortable in the water.

I came back to the pool, this evening, to get in my laps. This time I brought my 4 year old daughter, Sarah, with me. I did my 20 laps and she watched me, even cheered at me. :) It was kinda funny! We had a deal that if I could get in my laps first, then I would let her swim. She agreed and it went smoothly. She even got to see one of her little friends, which she barely gets to see anymore.
I swam 20 laps, .28 miles, 500 yards, in 13 minutes.

After swim, I went on a short run. I ran 2.5 miles in 24 minutes.

Earlier, in the day, I went to an appt and I had fun with the mirror ;)

WOW! or iMOM

I'm not sure many know how funny I am, ha, lol.

30 miles, week two down...

I finished up this week with a bridge run, with Jenny. She is an amazing runner, and always does well in the races. We both have been focused on other things, other then running, so running the bridge was a challenge. I also think the talking slowed us down too, but, I enjoyed the conversation.
We both said we would be faster and better next time, we did walk the whole last mile, so, next time will be better for sure :)

I finished up with a pretty good week. I didn't run as much as I wanted, but, there is always next week!

Bricks Today=Fail

I was supposed to work today, but, the little girl I watch ended up not coming. So, I decided I wanted to try to do all three activities today, ( swimming, biking, & running ) but, that didn't happen.

Got to the pool with my husband, and chatted it up with some friends. It was nice catching it up and seeing them. I got in the water and did my swim; 500 yards/ 20 laps/.28 miles in 15 minutes. It is an OK time, not great. I would like to get to 10 or 12 minutes.

Once I got out of the pool, my husband wanted me to spot him in his workouts. He is a free diver. So, in case he passes out, and the pool lifeguards don't see whats happening, I am there to get help or help him.

I wanted to go straight from swimming to riding my bike, but, that failed. I didn't mind watching my husband though. :)

Once we got home, I got ready for my bike ride. I was very tired, and my legs felt sore, but, I made it through the ride. I rode 11 miles in 51 minutes. I am trying to get to 4 min miles, but, who knows if that can be attainable with my legs or my bike!

After riding my bike, I felt a little soreness in my knee, so, I decided to call it a day and try again next week :)

Totally off....

But, like I said before, I am still moving. I missed working out Wednesday. It got pretty busy here in the home and it was raining on and off, so, I didn't get to do the training I wanted to do yesterday.

Today, I went to my swim class and got in a good workout; 500 yards of drill work. I feel like I am going to be okay, as long as I just keep swimming.

I also decided to go ahead and ride my bike, after swimming. A brick workout.
It was a beautiful day.

I felt pretty good after this workout and it was a really nice ride.

Doing what I can, hopeful I can follow the training to a tee next week :)

Swim and Elliptical

I had a swim class in the morning, it was just an evaluation to see where everyone was on their swimming skills, etc...so, I decided to go back to the pool with my husband, to get a better workout in. I did my swimming, and he did his training.

I also opted for elliptical today, just in case the knee flare up was an issue.

So, I am not following my training to a tee, but I am still moving :)

Training Schedule

Swim Class

Today was my first day at swim class. I learned that I have a few things to work on, with my technique. I have a bicycle kick, and I don't raise my arms high enough or fully extend them. I did feel better about my swimming once the class was over, I even felt a little faster with the new teachings.

My instructor said, "be ready Thursday for some serious drills" Yikes!

Training Week 1 Conquered, 19 to go...

I finished week one of my training; half marathon, tri, or just trying to be more active and healthy!

I love working out, running, biking, and now swimming. I wish it was just easier to schedule everything. I am also involving the kids, so they are more active, I feel like I am moving in 6 directions. Lets just hope all this works out..so much easier to do in my head!

Training Schedule

Running....knee flare up!

Ugh, I am not a happy runner. I ran my 3 miles this evening and I was starting to feel a flare up. I have taken running slowly, easing my way back, but I still felt a flare up. I really did a number on my knee/ligament/tendon a few months back, and it has taken awhile to heal. I am thinking, I will only run once or twice a week. On my run days, during the week, I may exercise on the elliptical. I'll have to mix it up, so I don't cause worse damage or have to quit running for months, again :(

Biking...

In my neighborhood is a bit challenging. Every time I feel the burn, I think of my legs getting more fit, firm, and strong. I am hoping that whatever Tri I race in, it will be flat!!! LOL

Training Schedule

This is the training schedule I have made up for myself, for the next 20 weeks. I have not decided on what Triathlon I am doing, I am still looking. But, in 20 weeks, I plan on running the Women's Half Marathon.

Just click on the pictures to see it bigger....
I will add in brick workouts, probably on Saturdays.

Once I decide on the Triathlon I will post it!

Our Fourth of July

We have a family tradition that we stay at a local hotel to watch fireworks. We stay across the street from our local park. We get a fantastic view of the fireworks, without being smothered by thousands of people, it is cool inside, and we enjoy the pool for a couple of days! We do walk over to the park to see what types of food the vendors are offering, we always end up getting elephant ears...yummy!

Marlin looking down at me, he was laughing and smiling.

He loved the hotel, the new surroundings.

Sarah loves this water fountain...she wanted her picture taken.

When the fireworks started, Madelyn was holding Marlin. After three booms he got scared, for just a couple of minutes, so daddy took him.

This year, the only issue was the darn street light! But, other then that, it was still great!!!

See how nice this is...the kids love it and so do we :)

And we don't have to deal with the crowd leaving...it really is perfect for our family!

I hope everyone enjoyed their fourth of July, Happy Independence!

Swim Workout

This swim was a little longer. I swam .34 miles ( 600 yards ) in 16 minutes. I have no idea if that is good or not, but I'll keep working.

This is where I swim, at a community center.

Kicked my husband's butt ;-)

Well, that is what he said, after this bike ride. He said I did amazing.

This was a fun bike ride. I am trying to enlist as many of my loved ones into working out with me when possible. I have my sister swimming with me, and my husband running and biking when I can get him to go...I would love my husband to do a Tri with me, but, he really has no interest. Well, he did say he would workout with me, and possibly race in the Life'a a Beach Tri, so that's a good thing.

Biking 10 miles in 44 minutes.

Short run after swimming...

Trying to get in quick brick workouts, when I can.

Brick Workout:
Bricks are a very important part of triathlon (and duathlon) training and they are sometimes overlooked. Bricks refer to training on two disciplines during the same workout, one after the other with minimal or no interruption in between, just as you would do in a race. Usually when people talk about bricks they refer to a bike/run workout, but bricks could also refer to a swim/bike workout or to a run/bike workout (if you are training for a duathlon). These last two are often overlooked but still important to fit here and there in your training plan.

Ran 1.50 miles in 14 minutes.

This brick workout from swimming to a run was a lot easier then when I did a bike to a run.
I am going to work on my brick workouts.

Swimming...here we go.

This week started my Tri and Marathon training. It is not very easy, I think, scheduling all the workouts; but I intend to try my hardest!!!

Tonight was my first official swim. I think I did pretty well. I am still working on my technique and learning how to breathe properly during the swim.

I have enlisted my sister, Cristy, to come along to some of my training. We had such a good time, we are a bunch of goof balls most of the time!

My swim was 450 yards, in 14 minutes. I am going to try to get that down to 10-12 minutes.
